One key difference between Classic Joule Studio and the New Joule Studio is the development approach.

The Classic Joule Studio primarily focuses on extending Joule by creating custom skills and agents for specific business needs.

The New Joule Studio takes a broader AI-first, intent-driven approach, where you describe the business outcome in natural language and use the same environment to build agents, applications, and workflows, from intent and requirements through development, testing, and deployment.

In short: Classic Joule Studio extends Joule; New Joule Studio provides a unified intent-to-outcome environment for building complete enterprise AI solutions.

Classic is a low-code drag-and-drop agent/skill builder; the new Joule Studio is an AI-first, intent-based environment that generates entire development artifacts from a natural-language description of what you want, plus supports full pro-code workflows.

Classic Joule Studio primarily focuses on creating Joule skills and agents through SAP Build, where developers manually define the business logic, workflows, integrations, and configurations.

New Joule Studio is built on the SAP Business AI Platform and introduces an intent-to-outcome development approach. Users can describe a business requirement in natural language, and the platform can generate business intent analysis, Specification, and code.

Key difference: Classic Joule Studio — A low-code/no-code environment embedded in SAP Build, focused on creating Joule Skills  ->New Joule Studio — A fully managed, enterprise-scale AI development platform that supports the full lifecycle of AI agents, apps, and workflows

Classic Joule Studio is mainly a low-code/no-code tool used to create Joule Skills and Agents for specific business processes. You manually design the logic, actions, and workflows.

New Joule Studio (Joule Studio 2.0) is a full AI-first development environment that goes beyond skills and agents. It supports intent-based development, allowing users to describe a business requirement in natural language and automatically generate requirements, code scaffolding, test artifacts, workflows, and enterprise AI agents on an SAP-managed runtime.

Example -

Classic Joule Studio - You tell the system how to build a solution step by step.

New Joule Studio - You tell the system what you want, and the AI helps build most of it for you.

Classic Joule Studio can only create Joule skills and Joule Agents, but the new version can build AI agents, applications and workflows based on business intents.

The Classic Joule Studio is a localized low-code tool within SAP Build for manually configuring specific skills and agents, whereas the New Joule Studio is an expanded, AI-first managed platform that handles the full end-to-end lifecycle starting from natural language business intent.

Key Difference - New Joule Studio relies on intent-based development without any manual configuration, which was required in the Classic Joule Studio.

The new SAP Joule Studio introduced a new way to develop AI Agants using intent-based development rather than manual development.

Answer: One key difference is that Classic Joule Studio is a low-code environment within SAP Build, while the New Joule Studio is a fully independent IDE that requires zero infrastructure setup.

Jefferson_Silva98_0-1786584038004.png

The Classic Joule was more manual, while the new one is intent-based.

One of the difference is, New Joule Studio uses intent-first natural language to create and customize its own AI Agent

One key difference between the Classic Joule Studio and the New Joule Studio

Classic Joule Studio requires building Joule skills and agents manually in SAP Build — defining each action, integration, and configuration step by step.

New Joule Studio starts from a business intent stated in natural language, then generates the PRD, specification, code, tests, and deployment — agents, applications, or n8n workflows, on an SAP-managed runtime.

New Joule Studio has option to integrate with n8n.

Workflow can be created easily.

Waiting for the trail version so that I can explore more and implement actual use-cases.

Key difference between the Classic Joule Studio and the New Joule Studio:

Classic Joule Studio is largely a no-code/low-code builder within the SAP ecosystem. New Joule Studio adds "intent-based development"

for me very important is the integration with n8n

New Joule studio is intent based - can create what you want by just describing in natural language and it will generate PRD, implementation, testing and deployment with very little interaction (approvals and all )

What stands out to me is the intent-based approach — I can just tell it what I want in plain natural language instead of writing code and clicking through configuration screens. As someone who's spent way too much time on setup, that's a huge difference.

Difference between Classic Joule Studio and the New Joule Studio-

Classic Joule Studio is primarily focused on extending SAP Joule by enabling developers to create custom Joule skills and agents tailored to specific business processes and use cases. It is delivered as part of SAP Build and provides a low-code/no-code environment for building, deploying, and managing conversational AI capabilities.
In contrast, the New Joule Studio represents SAP's next-generation platform for enterprise-scale agentic AI development. Rather than focusing only on custom skills and agents, it supports the complete lifecycle of AI-powered solutions, including agents, applications, and workflows. A key differentiator is its intent-based development approach, where users can describe their business objective in natural language and Joule Studio can generate requirements, technical specifications, code scaffolding, test assets, and working solution components.

The core shift is Skill Centric->Agent Centric.

Classical Joule Studio was built around Joule skills, you defined a deterministic capability-trigger utterances/training phrases, input and output parameters, and a fixed flow that calls an API/automation. Joule's job was intent matching: map what the user typed to one skill, collect the parameters, run the flow. Predictable and auditable, but rigid — anything the flow didn't anticipate simply wasn't handled, and coverage depended on how well you trained utterances.

The new Joule Studio is built around Joule agents: instead of a fixed flow, you give the agent a role and goal, instructions in natural language, a set of tools it may use (APIs, SAP-delivered skills, MCP-exposed services), and grounding/knowledge sources. The LLM plans the steps at runtime. That brings in things classic didn't have multi-step reasoning, multi-agent orchestration and delegation, human-in-the-loop approval points, execution traces/observability, and a library of SAP-provided agent templates you extend rather than build from zero.

One key difference is the scope of what you can build:

- Classic Joule Studio is primarily focused on creating custom Joule skills and agents that extend SAP's AI assistant with tailored business tasks and workflows.

-New Joule Studio is a broader AI development platform that lets you build AI agents, applications, and end-to-end workflows, with support for intent-based development, pro-code frameworks, and enterprise lifecycle management

The key difference is that Classic Joule Studio was primarily a developer-focused environment for extending Joule by building skills, projects, and actions that could invoke APIs or backend capabilities. It was largely focused on creating specific, task-oriented capabilities for Joule.

The new Joule Studio takes this several steps further. It is an intent-based, GenAI-assisted solution environment where you can start with a business problem or intent rather than starting with a technical skill or API. It helps you go beyond just building an AI capability to designing and managing an end-to-end solution—from understanding the requirement and identifying the right actions or agents, to building the solution, deploying it, monitoring it, and measuring its effectiveness.

One of the biggest changes, in my view, is that it bridges the gap between functional and technical roles. A functional analyst can start with a business intent or problem statement, use GenAI to clarify requirements and identify the right questions and solution approach, and then work toward an end-to-end solution within the same environment. Developers can then extend that solution with the required integrations, APIs, actions, or custom logic.

So, in simple terms:

Classic Joule Studio was primarily about building capabilities for Joule.
New Joule Studio is about building, managing, and continuously optimizing business solutions powered by Joule and GenAI.

It moves the experience from “How do I build a Joule skill?” to “What business outcome am I trying to achieve, and how can Joule help me build and continuously improve the solution?”

New Joule Studio is the latest capability that allows developers to create Joule Skills and agents tailored to a business with drag and drop simplicity.  The three pillars are Intent-Based Development, Business Context and Trusted Governance.

Joule Studio Classic is used to develop deterministic Joule Skills and structured agents and supports vibe coding for agent setup.
