The August Developer Challenge for the new Joule Studio is now closed. You are still able to do the challenges, but you will not get a badge and in general will not be following the posts.

💓Thank you💓 to everyone for partcipating, for submitting answers, for talking about their Joule, n8n, and Vercel experiences, for publicizing the challenge on LinkedIn and elsewhere, for extending our basic challenge projects, and for the compliments.

We awarded today badges to 517 community members. Below is how we determined who got a badge. There were 61 community members, listed below, who completed all 4 tasks of the challenge.

How We Awarded Badges

We awarded a badge to any community member who had completed at least one of the 4 tasks by midday Sept. 1. We were very easy-going in how we determined who completed each task (except when it came to listing your correct community ID).

We used a simple n8n workflow (vibe coded, of course) to make calls to the needed APIs, and then to find only unique community IDs.

Dan_Wroblewski_0-1788426512130.png

We actually received over 600 unique community IDs, but it was only until we awarded badges did we find the community IDs that were not valid.

Week 1 - Joule

We awarded completion of the week 1 task to anyone who simply entered an answer through our Vercel app @ https://sap-track.vercel.app/, which itself called our CAP service. We did not check everyone's answer and gave everyone credit (we could have put each answer through AI to check if what was written answered something like "SAP SuccessFactors and SAP Start" but we did not want to spend the tokens 🙂).

IMPORTANT: You had to put in your community ID – not number, and not with an @ sign. Many submissions had the incorrect value for your community ID.

Week 2 - Joule Studio

We accepted any comment to the blog post that was to answer the question about the differences between the old and new Joule Studio. We used the community's built-in and public API with a query like this one:

/api/2.0/search?q=select * from messages where ancestors.id = '14446186' LIMIT 300

Week 3 - n8n

For this week, you had to do 2 things.

  • Comment on the blog post showing how you completed the n8n project.
  • Call our CAP service from within your n8n project. Our CAP service needed to receive "n8n" as the user-agent and "week3" for the week, otherwise it was not accepted. And the call to our CAP service, like in week 1, needed to have your correct community ID.

Week 4 - Vercel

Here, our had to call our CAP service from Vercel, containing "week4" for the week, your correct community ID, and "vercel" as the source.

Thank you, @Dan_Wroblewski , for organizing and driving this fantastic Developer Challenge. The hands-on experience with Joule Studio, n8n, Vercel, and SAP AI technologies made learning both practical and enjoyable. Your efforts in creating engaging real-world scenarios and supporting the SAP Community are greatly appreciated. Looking forward to more challenges and learning opportunities in the future. 🚀

Hi @Dan_Wroblewski  I completed all challenges on time - I had a timer and all - and I don't see my name on the list. Would you please let me know what was missing?

First, I want to make it clear that I will not verify any more issues regarding who completed all the tasks, for anyone else. We gave badges to over 500 people, with very liberal requirements, so I think most everyone should be satisfied. And even if you did not get a badge, it is only a badge.

@deiamolina We required that the source field be filled with "vercel", which is was for 131 of the 144 entries. All the rest were "other" except for 1 that was "n8n". If we did something wrong about how we counted, I apologize. But no worries. You have your badge, and thanks for participating.

@shrinivasan_neelamegam Anything to add?

Hi @Dan_Wroblewski  you're absolutely right. The knowledge gained is definitely more important than the badge itself—it's just a fun part of the gamification!

I apologize if my previous message came across the wrong way. Looking back, I can see how it might have sounded a bit off, but that was truly not my intention. I was just overly excited! And as you mentioned, I did actually receive the badge.
I can only imagine how much hard work you all put into creating these Challenges, and I'm immensely grateful for it.
Thank you so very much,
Andréa

@deiamolina No worries ... my response was to prevent future inquireis, which with 100s of people participating could have taken a lot of time. Congrats on the badge 🚀
