Why Open Dynamic SQL does not work on some 4.6c clients?

Folks,

Our product includes a SAP function module that our customers install on their systems. This FM uses Open Dynamic SQL statement.

A customer just reported that the Open Dynamic SQL statement is giving a syntax error on their 4.6c client. I also discovered that even "RETURN" keyword does not work within their ABAP environment. Is it possible that their ABAP engine is old? If it is, is there a simple way to upgrade their ABAP engine?

I don't understand how you can provide a product without giving the minimum release. Only clients with a release that you have tested should be allowed to use your product.

Yes if you consider that 4.6c is old. But I don't think that RETURN alone is the cause, it should not change a lot between releases!

You mean the kernel. Kernel should be backward compatible. It means that maybe your client will have to do other upgrades, like Operating System upgrade, other SAP software upgrade, etc. Check the sap notes.
