Hi Experts,
I want to know what is table maintanence generator. I have gone through the forums discussing this and came to know that it is used to manually
input values using transaction sm30.But my doubt is that we can create entries in a table through the path utilities->table contents->utilities.Then what is this table maintanence generator through sm30.

HI Soumya ,
Generally what is done is once table maintanence generator is generated a transaction is also created for it , thus the entries in the table can be created/modified using that transaction.
This is done because in production systems , we cannot generally create data from SE11 , as we do not have authorization for it , so only to specific users who need to insert data into these table authorization for the transaction is given , and for others they can only view the data.
Hope this helps.

Arun

Hi Soumya
table maintanance Generator is used to manually
input values using transaction sm30
follow below steps
1) go to se11 check table maintanance check box under
attributes tab
2) utilities-table maintanance Generator->
create function group and assign it under
function group input box.
also assign authorization group default &NC& .
3)
select standard recording routine radio in table
table mainitainence generator to move table
contents to quality and production by assigning
it to request.
4) select maintaience type as single step.
5) maintainence screen as system generated numbers
this dialog box appears when you click on create

One step, two step in Table Maintenance Generator
Single step: Only overview screen is created i.e. the Table Maintenance Program will have only one screen where you can add, delete or edit records.
Two step: Two screens namely the overview screen and Single screen are created. The user can see the key fields in the first screen and can further go on to edit further details.

Hi Soumya,
The path Utilities -> Table Contents -> Create Entries is enabled only when you have created the Table Maintainance Generator for the table.
Basically this is a short cut for creating entries rather than going to SM30 to maintain the table. So unless the table maintainace is not activated this short cut will not work.
Hope this helps!

It is used for maintaining the tables. Generally for inserting new records into custom table thru transaction SM30, we need to enter all the values manually and save the record.

Hi,
doubt is that we can create entries in a table through the path utilities->table contents->utilities.
and answer is that " <b>thru table maintenance user can enter mulitiple values and save at a time"</b> , where as thru path utilities->table contents->cretae entries , user can cretae 1 record and save i.e only 1 record at a time.
Rvert back if any issues.
