Where is the setting in ECC6 to enable auto completion of syntax when you are coding?

Hi Tom,
By default, the new ABAP Editor feature of Auto Code Completion should be enabled. If it isn't then you can go to the right bottom of the ABAP Editor to get a icon clicking on which will pop up will come which will give you a wide array of functionality. from there you can toggle the features according to your requirement.
Have a look at the following Wiki about the new ABAP editor.

Hope this will help.
Thanks,

Hi Tom,
in the new frotend editor, you have a small non-sap paper/book-like icon at the bottom-right corner of the editor.
Click this and discover a new world...
