Sending an automatic mail

Hi all,

I have to send the Message as "Your POis going to expire" as a mail to the Responsible person.

Can i use the Function Module SO_NEW_DOCUMENT_SEND_API1 to send the mail

What i think is that using the above function module we can able to send the Output pf a report but not the messages

Please giude me
