selection-screen texts and logon language

Hi all,

I'm having reports with english selection texts (Dictionnary ref. is ticked).

So I expect SAP to translate it in all languages automatically, or at least to use english as default value

But when I logon in german, french, russian .... these texts does not appear with their english description, but with the technical one (S_MATNR, ...), which force me to translate them via SE63 ...

Is it normal ? do we need to translate ALL texts of all reports in dozens of languages via SE63 (whereas the english texts is ok for me for all logon languages) ?

Hello,

Yes u do translate the text in all the langauges you want to view in different logons.

SAP will only propose the translation.

We need to translate manually.

Yes.

You need to translate them. You can use SAP transalations for it.

I understand that even for DDIC fields you have to activate the translation.

Use following steps:

1. Open SELECTION TEXTS screen using SE38

2. From menu GOTO > TRANSLATION

3. Enter ORIGINAL & TARGET Language

4. Copy all the text as required for all the selection texts and text elements

5. SAVE and exit.

Are you selection texts checked as Dictionnary ref. If no, you will have to translate those.

hi,

yes, SAP automatically translate into the language( means in which laguage we r r log in).

at the time of log in sap system, it ask in which language u r logon, there we choose the language type.

or else

1. Open SELECTION TEXTS screen using SE38

2. From menu GOTO > TRANSLATION

3. Enter ORIGINAL & TARGET Language

4. Copy all the text as required for all the selection texts and text elements

5. SAVE and exit.

Hi Sylvain,

as far as I remember this could be related to program source language. Make sure that program source language and logon language when creating/modifying program are the same.

what is weird is that : I create a simple report (logon english) containing :

select-options : s_matnr for mara-matnr.

and then I click on dictionnary ref. in selection texts (menu : goto -> texts elements -> selection texts) in order to have the dictionnay description automatically used ("material" in this case)

then when i logon in french, i'm getting S_MATNR on the selection-screen (no description found), whereas of course this standard description exists inside our system

I'm quite astonished that, for a standard dictionnary object, i would need to translate manually to french and all other logon languages...

Hello,

For standard ddic objects also the SAP will propose the corresponding field text.

What u do is in the selection text follow the menu path.

GOTO--->Transaltion.

GIve the Original language = EN

Target language = FR.

Now u can see the

Material

XXXXX - Corresponding text in French.,

Save and active.

Logon in French. You will see the text now.

If useful reward.

In the report use

SET LANGUAGE 'EN'.

if you feels english text is okay for all other login languages also.

not necessary to translate to other languages.

yes aRs that's a good idea, but I tested and it didn't work, even if I set language 'EN' in an "at selection-screen output" event ...

otherwise I already now SE63 or goto-> translation, but actually my goal is to avoid doing hundreds of SE63 for each report in each languages ...

I guess i'll have to chose this second solution... anyway thanks a lot for your help!
