Hi
Header data is something that is common for all records
Item data varies.
For example a Purchase order.

Header tables will hold the header datas..
Header data is nothing but to hold the datas which will come only one time for a record..
i.e->if u r going for purchasing some items for ur house means
ur name and date, bill number will be come only one time
But the items u purchase will be more than one item..
So here the items what u purchase are said to be item data and ur name, billnum, date is said to be header data

HI,
for example in case of purchase order.we will have number of materials and purchasing org.,acc.group,etc...
materials we will call as items.and the material details we will as item details.
the data common to all items i.e,purchasing org.,acc. group,etc,... are called as header data.

for example take a PO
all the data like from and to addresses and the PO number etc related to the transaction are called header data.
and
all the data like what are the materials/items purchased, what is the qty purchased and the descriptions of the materials etc. are all called item data.
