Reading Excel file while running in background

Hi,

I need to save content of my Excel file in internal table

while running my program in background mode.

My Excel file is stored in the application server folder.

I tried to use open,read,close dataset both in binary mode and text mode but I gets gibberish.

Hi Eyal!

Is your excel file in internal format (.xls) or is it an .csv (comma separated values)?

.csv should work in text mode, internal (.xls) format would need a special import filter. These filters I only know for online use.

Any chance to get a file conversion by Excel?

Otherwise have a look at program SAPRDEMOEXCELINTEGRATION (transaction DWDM) and check, if some parts work in background (and application server), too.

Hi,

To read xls file you need controls which are part of excel

installation. I don't think that you installed excel on your BW server...
