Try to see on your Drive you might have SAPINST file or folder sitting on your machine . find the folder and get rid of it . if you’re installing first time on this machine . Then its strange but my advice is try to do a little search on your drives .juts to make sure that you’re not missing any thing .

I am trying to install Mini SAP 4.6D on Windows XP. It fails due to missing winnt directory. Does someone know of a custom way to install this?

There is a FAQ_E.doc file on the Kernel disk, does this help?

The first thing that happens for this install is, SQLserver (MSDE) is installed. Did this happen? The db has to install on the same drive as the OS.

After the database is installed the SAP install starts, this shows the install progress. How far through did this get to.

Matt,

Thanks for responding. the first messages I received were that the Kernel could not install. The next message was that it was looking for a label MSSQL:MINISAP:46d:DATA for CD Data in path 😧 but the check was not successful. It then asked for the Data disc but after 15 minutes came back with messages that the DB could not be loaded and aborted.

Disk 1 is named 'Kernel', disk 2 'Data'. You need to change from the Kernel disk to the Data disk at 41%.

The Kernel disk will install the database. This is Microsoft's SQL-server 2000 Desktop Engine edition (MSDE). The install process supplied means that only 1 copy of MSDE can exist on your PC. If you already have a 'Default' instance of MSDE on your PC the mini system will start to install but will fail when the total db size goes over 2GB, (the limit of MSDE). If this is the case I can tell you how to install the mini system on to a named 'MBS' instance of the database.

You are loged on as Administrator for your machine, and the destination folder is less than 10 characters long?

There are visual postings of the process at SAPBasisAdministration.com <a href="http://www.sapadministration.com/knowledge/minisap46d/MiniSAP46D.pdf">"Installing Mini SAP Basis Release 4.6D"</a> and at S001.org <a href="http://www.s001.org/DNL/MBSInstall.htm">Installation MiniSAP Basis mit Microsoft SQL Server 2000</a>(this is for installation on a full edition of SQL-server (MSDE is a cutdown version)).

Matt,

I think the problem is I must have the MSDE problem you described. I tried it on another computer which did not have SAP loaded and it loaded aversion of SQL Server but I still could not complete the install. Let me know how to install to a named MBS instance.

Thanks again,

JOhn

You can download the 6.40 version here at SDN, but it requires a lot of memory.

You can download version 6.20 at SAPsuperusers.com this version only needs 3.5GB. You can buy books with this version, look at SAP-press.com

You can get version 4.6D (needs 2.0GB) with the book ABAP Objects Programming SAP applications <a href="http://www.pearsoned.co.uk/Bookshop//detail.asp?item=100000000013999">www.IT-Minds.com -> Goto -> ABAP</a>
