function module to load data in info cube

I read on help that we can assign a function module to infocube to load data from external sources. Is such a option available either in BI 3.5 or BI 7.0

In BI7.0, right click on ur InfoArea, say Create Infocube. You can find the option 'Based on Function Module' there.
