SAPscript came before smarforms. They are both forms technology, smartforms is a little nicer to work with depending on who you ask. They basically use the same types of "objects" in the form development. Forms, character formats, paragraph formats, etc.

I like to think that SMartforms is SAPscript with a fancy face and updated functionality.

The first and the foremost is

1.smartforms are client independent where as scripts are client dependent.

2. Multiple page formats can be used in sM..Forms whereas we cannot in scripts.

3. only 1 main window can be created in SM Form where as 99 main windows can be created in scripts.

SAPscript is one of the SAP's oldest document formatting designer.

Smartformt is the lastest one. You use SAP Smart Forms to create and maintain forms for mass printing in SAP Systems.

Hi satish,

Basically both scripts and Smartforms are SAP's own text processing technologies, smartforms being the more evolved technique.

Smart forms have the capability of uploading background images, whereas in scripts, its not possible.

Smart forms are client independent whereas scripts are client depenedent.

There are many other differences too.

Hi Satish,

SAPScript is the only form development side which is used by SAP before release 4.6C.Starting from 4.6C we have got SmartForms as well which is having lot of new and better features compared to SAPScript.
