Hi All,
Please correct me about my understanding on Access Keys..
When the developers request for an access key, the basis guys run some transction to create the access keys. In that process/transaction, some where the userid is given as an input and the result of that process using the licence key creates an access key for that user and create a new record for that user in the DEVACCESS table.
If I have IDES installed in my machine, downloaded from the service.sap.com/swdc etc. I have access to almost all the components and table. Why can't I create a key for my userid, basically create a record with userid and some id with 20 digits. Now the record is created.
Now if I try to create an object it will ask for the access key and if I enter the same access key I madeup will it accept?. If it does not accept how it validates the access key.
Can any basis guys answer my question?
Thanks.
Alex.

Developer Keys are generated on SAP Marketplace, you must provide your installation number...

Thank you for your answer. I want to know how the validation is taking place. Does SAP maintains the records of developer keys, program keys with in it's database (in Germany) or keep the records in DEVACCESS table. How the validity of the key is determined. Do you mean to see for each access key the basis contacts Germany and that gets stored in DEVACCESS? and while validating SAP system contacts Germany to validate the key?
Thanks,
Alex.
