Converting PDF file to spool

Former Member

Hi SAP Experts,

Is there a way I can convert a PDF file into a spool?

I need to do this to allow our DAZEL counterpart to re-direct the printjob into a specified printer.

Regards,

Ranilo

Hi,

Normally data in particular format will be sent to spool. PDF format is not supported to be sent to spool...PDF format is used when u need to send a email to people etc..

Thanks Kiran,

The PDF file i was referring to is an attachment file which i need to convert to a spool file. Our DAZEL team says that if I can convert the PDF file to a spool file then they will be able to extract it and eventually direct it to a specified printer.

Check this ...

if Printer can read the binary data then it will print the PDF file.

hI,

1.You r converting OTF into PDF.This PDF can be sent through mail as attachment. This PDF can be print.

2.But,You cann't convert PDF to Spool. If they need then first create spool and then convert into pdf.

3.that is possible externally by RSTXPDFT4 or RSTXPDF4.

Hi Venkat,

Thanks for the reply, but what I am looking for is how to convert a PDF file into a spool.

Hi Ranilo,

did you find anything?

I investigated a little bit, and here is what I found in sap nw2004s (v7):

1) spools may have 4 formats: list, sapscript, smartform, pdf

2) it seems (but maybe I am wrong) that pdf spool may only be generated via forms designed via SFP transaction (pdf-based forms or interactive forms) and called by abap programs. It means that a pdf file generated by other means CANNOT be stored in a spool!

3) a pdf spool may contain several pdf (each is called a part of the pdf spool)

4) when a pdf-based / interactive form is generated via an abap program, it creates 3 files in global directory (DIR_GLOBAL profile parameter, cf transaction RZ11): .pcl, .cfg and .xfd. They are prefixed SPOOL0000000017_00001, where 0000000017 is the spool number, and 00001 is the part number.

5) the most important for you : when you use SP01 transaction, you see the PDF spools and you can display them (when you display one spool, you first see the parts, and must select one which contains one pdf). SAP reads the files of the corresponding pdf/part.

5-a) First it looks for a .pda file. What is a .pda file, I didn't mention it yet! pda stands for pdf archive. SAP considers it exactly like a pdf binary file. I don't know in what situations SAP generates it, but you can create it yourself! (I did it, and then, SP01 displays this file). But how to create this kind of spool from zero in TSP01 table of spools (and maybe other tables)? You can look at RSPO0023 report as an example. It doesn't work directly with a pdf file, but you may adapt it to work.

5-b) Second it looks for a .coa file? (certificate of analysis?)

5-c) Otherwise, it reads the .cfg file where the corresponding SFP form version is stored (like a form url), reads the .xfd file as is, then it calls ADS services with the form url and XFD data, which generates the pdf binary.

Now, the last question is: is DAZEL able to read this kind of spool?
