Cannot save changes to Long Text in tcode CA03

Hello all,

I am using component version SAP ECC 6.0.

I am trying to edit the routing information for a list of parts. I need to add my contact info to the Long Text document so that I am contacted when our warehouse has pulled parts.

When I bring up the part in tcode CA03, I am given a screen with this table:

In the row with the description "ISSUE ORDER & MAT'L", I double click the checked box under "Long Text Exists."

This opens the Word text editor.

When I start typing in the text document, no text appears, and this pane appears at the right:

If I hit the "Stop Protection" button at the bottom of this pane, I can now edit the text, but I cannot save the changes I make. The "save" icon at the top is disabled (grey instead of yellow) and CTRL+S doesn't work either.

Does anyone know why I can't make changes?

Could it be because I am not authorized for tcode MM02?

Hello,

It is because your user does not have authorization to change/maintain long text.

First of all the functional configuration has to be maintained where change of text is allowed. There can be various options like - always append new text and do not allow any delete,  all text should begin with some specific value, etc. Exact path in SPRO i don't remember.

After that change configuration is maintained you would need authorization for that. I think its also controlled in the configuration
