Hello,
I have few questions regarding BOM data migration. Please let me know if you have any thoughts on this.
1) Which method is best for loading BOMs, is it Standard Input or Batch Recording
2) When you define source structures, do I need to have one for header and one for item level, if your answer is yes, will item level source structures lies in same level as that of header level
3)Do I have to maintain source relations for both the header and item
4)How should I have the data load file prepared. Both header and Item on a single file or ontwo different files. Can you please share the format. What will be the format if there are multiple components in a BOM
if you have any kind of documentation for BOM data migration please share with me.
Thanks in advance

Hi,
1,
Standard batch input is the best method for uploading boms.
use this in method in LSMW
Object 0030 Material BOM
Method 0001 Create
Program Name RCSBI010
Program Type B Batch Input
2, Yes, but item level should not be in same level as header level.Item level should be child of the header level.
3, You need to have common fileds in header and itam strucutre that will releate corresponding header with item
eg
MATNR
WERKS
STLAN
STALT
Above four fields should be common in both header and item file.
4, You can have two seprate file of header and item.
Header strucure sample:
MATNR
WERKS
STLAN
AENNR
STALT
DATUV
EXSTL
ZTEXT
STKTX
BMENG
STLST
LOSVN
LOSBS
STLBE
Item strucute Sample.

but remember one thing if is there any zfields in transaction there is no use of direct input u have to use recording method

Thanks for the info Shanmugavel,
Your answer pop'ed another question. You have mentioned that some of the header level fields should be in common in the item level data. But when you look at BICSP " Batch Input Structure for BOM Item Data" you don't find these fields, will source and target structure mapping be an issue during data upload.
Is there any special instructions that I need to follow during "Maintain Field Mapping and Conversion Rules" step of data upload.
Please let me know.

Hi Shanmugavel,
Your answer helped me to create BOM. I can see an issue witht the newly created BOM items. All of the BOM components has "Assembly Indicator" Checked on eventhough there are no BOM items existing. In reality this indicator should be checked only when there is a BOM.
Do you have any idea how can this be worked around? Do I have to make any changes in load file or in "Maintain Field Mapping and Conversion Rules" step.
Please let me know.
Thanks once again.

Hi ,
Assembly level indicator is populated by the system. We cannot map them.
For example:
For Bom material AA
U have line item as XX.
If XX has some BOM allready then Assembly level indicator will be automatically checked in the transaction.
To confirm this you can double click on Assembly level indicator where its checked
it will take you the BOM of material XX.
Hope this will help you.

Shanmugavel,
My issue is that LSMW has populated assembly level indicator for all components with or without line items.
Any thoughts..!
