Thomas,
Cricket is NOT named after an insect.
Cricket may also refer to:

Derivation of the name:

I think Thomas was reffering back to an earlier thread where someone made a joke about the insect and the sport and it flew (no pun intended) over some peoples heads.
I'm not a huge Cricket fan but i like the look of the Chennai Super Kings. How can a team with a player called Napoleon Einstein be bad?
Hi,
I am the naugthy guy from Cricket non playing France who made fun about the pseudo relation between the insect and the game...
Though, it is obvious because the Cricket game is played on lawn which is grass and cricket insects love grass !
It was also to remind our world wide SDN audiance that, what is obvious in your country may be mysterious in the country of your fellow SDN forumer.
That is also something very interesting in the Coffee Corner : confronting opinions and different cultures.
Sorry to disturb (in fact, not really) , once more the Crickets fans !
PS : No game is superior to Petanque !
Greetings,
Olivier
Hi friends,
did not know about Olivier's previous thread on the topic, just my usual sense of "humour".
I actually watched some cricket on TV during a vacation on an island in the Indian ocean and probably understood 7 percent of the rules after several days...
Feel free to run over my home football (soccer) team "Hertha BSC Berlin"
Cheers
Thomas
Humm!!

game but still they trying to know that..really appriciated..

Hi,
What is this strange game ?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/P%C3%A9tanque
The first World Championships were organized in 1959. The most recent championships were held in Faro (2000), Monaco (2001), Grenoble (2002, 2004 and 2006), Geneva (2003), Brussels (2005), and Pattaya / Thailand (2007). Fifty-two teams from 50 countries participated in 2007.
Greetings,
Olivier
o Thats a great reward for chennai team...then what is he batsman? or bowler? any one having his statistics regarding his performance?
What happen to Deccan chargers? any illusion..happening..the team called as favourite not even in race...In the last position..?
Edited by: saslove sap on Apr 25, 2008 8:12 AM
Bad luck is coming in different manifestations for Deccan Chargers of Hyderabad.
The other day it was Virender Sehwag's Blitzkrieg and yesterday it was sheer power hitting of Aussie spin magician, Shane warne with his unlikely batting prowess....
hope the Deccan chargers have something in the offing in the remaining matches atleast..
today is Mumbai Indians Vs Punjab Kings...interesting match, because both the teams haven't got started in the points table....
Hi Dudes,
Deccan chargers:Leader is the main problem for deccan chargers.Laxman is such a nice man..that he never like any team disspointed.
he is trying his level best for keeping other teams Happy..
First two mathces..The man who is not at all fit for one-days
(venu gopal) has been sent to opener..and then following the captian laxman as one-down..which is maxing the situation so pathetic.Afridi sending him at 6th oreder.in 20 game match what his palns only god knows.
ok first two mathces bad luck..but the third match..where thins seems fine..2 overs 21 to 1 over 18 runs..Really no team will loss the match generally..but the great brain fo laxman again comes into picute..he has given the ball to "MONKEY" who has been given 24 runs in his previous over(Includes 3 sixes form our test palyer Kaif + 6 runs)
.Monkey has bowled such anice the endresult every one knows..
but i dont understand one thing..iafridi who has given only 6 runs and taken 3 wickets previous over has been avoided and ball has given To monkey.....laxman hats up!!! cheers..the reason behind his paly is soon coming to picutres friends...wait and see...

Lol..Its way way long back in INDIA of name...[KARRA BILLA|http://www.hindu.com/2006/09/10/stories/2006091005640200.htm] Copied by the english man and name it as Cricket !!! and Karra(In local language it means Stick) became the BAT
Billa became the Ball ))))

[No one knows when or where cricket began but there is a body of evidence, much of it circumstantial, that strongly suggests the game was devised during Saxon or Norman times by children living in the Weald, an area of dense woodlands and clearings in south-east England that lies across Kent and Sussex.|http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_cricket]
I have not heard the game Karra Billa, but I know [gilli danda|http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gilli-danda] looks like the raw form of cricket.
Gilli-danda (Devanagari: गिल्ली डण्डा), gulli-danda or Guli Danda is an amateur sport, popular among rural youth in the Indian subcontinent. It is called dānggűli in Bangla, chinni-dandu in Kannada, kuttiyum kolum in Malayalam, viti-dandu in Marathi, kitti-pullu in Tamil, gooti-billa in Telugu, and Lappa-Duggi لپا ڈگی in Pashto.
The embedded link says its gooti-billa in Telgu.

I think Andhra People can call this game in different words like gooti-billa and Karra billa etc. It is totally depends up on their Region like Telangana, Rayalaseema and Kostandhra.
If you are belongs to Andhra Pradesh, you can well known about these Regions.

Really the match between Roddick and federar was owesome....... I was standing on toes.... and Federar is truely champ...... Better luck next time Roddick....
Thanks,
Raja
And interestingly, the Oz media is fuming about the same things they have benefitted while at Sydney:
1. A grassed catch. (Clarke's catch then)
2. Not referring to third umpire (Symmonds stumping then), when it was necessary.
I cant stop laughing, esp when I think about statements made by some of the Oz players then:
The law of averages always catches up with ya.
haha... and what a time for the law of averages to catch-up with ya. The Ashes!!!!
pk
Absolutely Agree.
Also, if you go back few more years , then you must be remembering Sachin's Head before Wicket (HBW ) on McGrathu2019s delivery?
Comon'n OZ thatu2019s Cricket, Itu2019s only one year ago. Every test might not be played in Sydney.
P.S. I appreciates Efforts from England despite the umpire decisions, and at the same time I do appreciate the efforts from Clarke and Haddin.
Cheers
Yes I watched Both matches and Followed closely.
Do all players playing only for Money? There is no affection with their nation in their heart? How they can forget the pains and glory which they brought to their nation by winning two consecutive maiden world cups? For the moment Were they remembered the prestige of Vivian Richards and Malcolm Marshal? Establishing the records is easier than keeping them. Donu2019t forget that was first ever home/overseas defeat for WI against B.
Pity WI players and WICB, who did not came with harmony in the team and WICB. Self spoiled their records. huh
>
> In Gujarat.. it will be called GPL
If they do come up it will be great to Indian T20 version.
What will be the name if GOA starts the same ??
May be it will be whichever implements first will get GPL
And by the way it should not end with "CL" ?? ICL was a flop, but Kapil Dev still thinks it can survive.
