We would like to publish Bex queries to the portal and from research I believe we need Web Application Designer.
Question 1: Do you know if this is true?
Question 2: Is WAD part of a normal BW installation? I know it is a desktop application, but how do we get it on our desktop?
Thanks,
Request clarification before answering.
Hi,
If you are executing query into portal, no need WAD application.
But you should configure BW system into portal then only you can access via portal.
For Configruation and prerequisites please check the note: 917950.
Also please check the note: 2113395 configuration error correction.
Thanks and Regards,
Venkat

Hi Keith,
If your just want to execute the query in web, you can execute from Query Designer or directly from
BW Backend system using transaction code "RSRT" (using Java web button.
If you want to publish in Portal you can save it as favorites , then it will be available in your Portal
under favorites.
WAD will be available if you install BEX GUI frontend tools which will have query designer as well as WAD.

Amit

Hi,
If you want to publish queries to portal, you can open the relevant query in Query Designer and
then go to option Query(first option on the top left of the page) -> Publish -> To Portal... and Web Application Designer is not required for this.
If you want to publish Web Templates to portal, then you need to go to Web Application Designer and
then go to option Web Template -> Publish -> to Portal...
Please note that Query Designer is used to design BW queries and Web Templates is used to design
BW Web Templates and for BW Web Templates created using Web Application Designer -> Query View, Query or Info Provider can be assigned to Web Templates as Data Provider.
For getting Query Designer on your desktop -> can you please apply latest patch of SAP GUI for Windows 7.30 and latest patch for BI 7.0 ADDON FOR SAP GUI 7.30 and check whether it helps you.
Also, please refer the following SAP Note:

Hi Keith,
I don't know if WAD is required but we really used WAD to EMBED queries in MS sharepoint..
When you say publish in portal? What will you do? You want to just get the links of queries and paste in the portal like HYPERLINK? Because we can run queries right now in our portal..
Regards,
Loed
