SPDD & SPAU

I need clarification about a couple of things in SPDD and SPAU. We are upgrading from 46C to ECC6.0. While I have participated in ealier upgrades I was not involved in the actual process. Reading the documentation and the Wiki Link for the upgrade has still left me with some questions.

1. We created a ECC6.0 Sandbox and the SPDD modification were not done. Can I go in and do the SPDD modifications after the upgrade is complete and utilize this when we upgrade our DEV box? I know that this is supposed to part of the PREPARE stage of the upgrade but this was not done.

2. In SPDD many objects are shown that were modified in earlier releases(31I) and than subsequently the 4.6C version was adopted. If I reset these object to original in SPDD will these continue to show in subsequent upgrades? Is there something that I can do in our 4.6C system so these will not show up in SPDD at all once we do the upgrade? (Same Issue for SPAU)

3. In SPDD when trying to make the adjustments I am being prompted for an SSCR key. Will I need SSCR keys to do these adjustments if done during the proper time in the upgrade?

4. In SPDD only a local transport request is allowed. Is this normal - can a local transport be used here. Or is this an issue relating to how the sandbox is setup. I setup a transportable request but SPDD would not allow me to select it.

Hi,

upfront one thing: If you set object to "original" in SPDD you might lose data. So be carefull in SPDD. In SPAU you're on the safe side. Now to what I believe is still open:

2. If you set the objects back to standard/original, they shouldn't show up in future upgrades anymore. If you don't return to standard or if you return to standard via manually entering the code (which you shouldn't do...) they show up. If you do modifications because of notes, use SNOTE when ever possible to minimize the number of modifications.

3. Whenever you change SAP objects you need an SSCR key.

Jochen

After the upgrade you have 14 days to go through SPAU and SPDD after which you will be asked for a key. If you get to it within 14 days they you won't have to enter the key everytime.

Hi Cheryl,

1) No, SPDD are dictionary objects modification. The upgrade in the sandbox system activated the original SAP version of the objects. SPDD ALWAYS needs to be done during the upgrade.

2)After an object has been reset to original, it is treated as an unmodified object during the next Support Package or upgrade, so it will not show up during the next upgrade.

3)When doing SPDD during the upgrade you will not be ask for the SSCR keys.

4)I think the local transport is due to the SANDBOX setup. Normally it should be transportable because you do all the SPDD and SPAU modification in your DEV system and then use these transports during the upgrades off your QAS and PRD system.

@ Afi C, Tim Barrow and Dinesh Vadgama: SPDD has to be done DURING the upgrade. If you don't there is a big chance you will loose data. This is due to the fact that if don't do SPDD during the upgrade SAP standard is activated, thus customer fields and the data contained in those fields is lost.

SPAU is indeed be done "after" the upgrade, but before you finish the upgrade. During 14 days after the upgrade the system doesn't ask for an SSCR key.

Please remember what SPDD and SPAU is - a modifacation that was done by the customer is now going to be overwritten by the upgrade. It doesn't matter how old that modifacation is, it was put in at your site and it is about to be overwritten by the upgrade. If you no longer need the modifacation because the upgrade brings in that functionality, the let it be overwritten. Otherwise the mod that someone put in during your 3.1 days is going bye bye.

Maybe someone else can answer this one also - is there a timeline in which modifacations are store in SPDD and SPAU after the upgrade is performed?

HI.

1. Yes, you can do SPDD stuff after the upgrade. usually when the upgrade is about to finish, at that time it ask, if you want to adjust ..etc.. you do them later on after the upgrade.

2. I'm not sure about your question 2.

3. I don't remember if it asked for SSCR key, if it did, then you have to provide.

4. Have you setup transport route properly? SPDD is can be transported. I have not done the trnasport.. I did it manually in all the landscape.

BTW, this is basically functional people work. If they can do it, let them handle it.

I hope this can help.

Thanks,
