Dear Experts,
I'm reading a lot of SAP documentation regarding tools to help us to visualize and implement SAP solutions. I'd like to be sure to use the right tool / methodology depending on what exactly we need to achieve.
When is it recommended to use SAP Solution Composer? And when is it recommended to use SAP Solution Manager? How can we combine the use of these tools? Can we start with SAP Solution Composer and once the customer requires a demo, load his custom solution map into SAP Solution Manager?
Thanks for your comments,
Stephanie

Dear Stephanie,
Analysis of SAP scenarios, processes, and process details during the strategy phase, based on the process content of SAP Solution Composer (incl. industry business maps, application maps, configuration processes and process steps, key performance indicators) uses SAP reference content during the blueprinting phase.
While the target processes are being defined, the product content and component-independent process content of SAP Solution Composer can be used in ARIS for SAP NetWeaver, as can the configuration processes of SAP Solution Manager.
SAP Solution Manager is a centralized solution management platform that provides the tools, the integrated content, and the gateway to SAP that you need to implement, support, operate, and monitor your SAP solutions. It helps to minimize risks and to reduce total cost of ownership (TCO). SAP Solution Manager
runs in your solution landscape and facilitates the technical support of your distributed systems.
The SAP Solution Composer helps you visualize, plan, and implement coherent and comprehensive IT solutions. To create your own customer-specific map, edit the pre-defined content or build a new map using the one-click editing function.
Solution Composer contains:
Pre-delivered up-to-date content as a basis to develop an initial understanding of business opportunities for partners, customers and SAP by providing an overview of the industry and application
Comprehensive portfolio of over 400 up-to-date Industry, Cross-industry and Infrastructure and Service maps
Provides the ability to articulate key customer opportunities and align these to the mySAP Business Suite solutions via the SAP Business

I'll add some internal additions as well from Product Management:
Solution Composer is used in the discovery phase to evaluate SAP's applications and to map it to the customers' requirements. It is also used as a sales tool.
SAP Solution Manager is a lifecycle management platform used to implement, run and optimize SAP applications. It is used to manage the technical implementation.
Solution composer lists how certain scenarios can be build in the so called "configuration variants". These configuration variants can be found on SAP Solution Manager as well. However they need to be selected as no automated transfer is available to date.
Solution Composer is also the technical basis for the Enterprise Services Workplace, ensuring discovery of Enterprise Services from a process orientated view.
Thus Solution Composer will be shipped with the Enterprise Services Repository (ESR) for documentation of delivered process components and enterprise services.
