SAP Host Agent

Hi,

We have installed Diagnostics agent 7.11 in the managed system host. Our configurations are:

Solman system 7.0 EHP1 SP20 (managing system)

Netweaver 7.0 (managed system)

As per my understanding we do not need SAP host agent to be installed in managed system host as it is only required when You want to centrally monitor a host that does not have an SAP component. But in our case we have SAP netwaver 7.0 in managed system i.e. an SAP componenent.

Please let me know your comments on whether we still require the host agent. This way i will whether i am going in right direction.

Thanks,

Rohan

Hi rohan,

You configure the SAP host agent to enable the start and stop of services on every computer system, and monitor the status of computer systems .In your case I would reccomend install and configure CCMS agent for monitoring the SAP components centrally . Refer http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/f08287c4-a4ee-2a10-b0a2-c863755fd... .

Thanks Nibu for the reply.

But i need to know one thing, that SAP HOST agent has anything to do with the EWA reports generation for JAVA systems.

You don't need it for EWA generation of a java component.

The SAP Host Agents are used for other purposes, if I'm not mistaken.

Helo Rohan

Dan is correct, for non-ABAP managed systems the Diagnostic Agent is used to collect EWA data for Solution Manager.

For ABAP systems it uses SDCC/SDCCN.

The Solution Manager Diagnostic Agent is required, and used, for Java stack monitoring for the EWA.

The SAPHOSTAGENT package, comprising saphostexec, saphostctrl, sapacosprep, sapcontrol and other binaries, works with the Adaptive Computing Controller to allow scripted shutdowns, start ups, and virtual host moves from one physical server to another. It also allows SAP systems or system components to be stopped and started by means of the SAP management Console. It plays no role in the EWA reports, other than implementing a specific version of the SAP OS collector which gathers detailed monitoring data.
