SAP GUI performance recommendations for Citrix-based deployments

Dear SAP Support Team,

we operate the SAP GUI client in a Citrix-based environment to provide access for both internal and external users.

In this context, we would like to ask whether SAP provides any best practices, experience-based recommendations, or official guidance regarding SAP GUI settings and configuration to ensure optimal performance when running SAP GUI via Citrix (or comparable application virtualization solutions), compared to a local installation on end-user devices.

Specifically, we are interested in:

• Recommended SAP GUI client settings that are known to improve performance or stability in Citrix environments
• Features or options that should be disabled or adjusted in virtualized scenarios
• Any known limitations or SAP Notes relevant to SAP GUI usage via Citrix / remote desktop solutions
• General deployment or sizing recommendations from SAP’s perspective

Any references to documentation, SAP Notes, or official statements would be highly appreciated.

Hello Robert, 

Although the note is quite old, the recommendations still apply to all subsequent and current SAP GUI versions. 

There is a best-practice guide attached to the note Troubleshooting Citrix Metaframe / SAP GUI Issues 

Some registry entries may need to take into account 64bit versions of SAP GUI. In this case, refer to the Administration guide in the SAP GUI DOCU folder.
