SAP Design Studio Pie Chart Tooltips

Dear community

I'm struggling with the standard functionality of the SAP Design Studio Pie Charts.

Since I have 4 measures in the initial view (rows) the Tooltip always shows me the name of the first measure (very good).

Is there a way to show only the correct measure (good) and the corresponding value?

Or only the corresponding value itself?

Hi Michael,

I would like to make this clear before looking for the work-arounds. Pie charts usually splits a circular statistical graphic into number of slices to show the numerical proportion of a particular measure. For example, how revenue is proportionate across countries (Note- we are having only one key-figure and we slice it down across countries, in this case.)

In your case, you are having four measures, so the first measure is considered as Header for all the following measures and showed in the same way in the tool-tip.

Now, we will see the work-arounds. Based on your case, we can solve this in two different ways.

Solution 1 - Create a dummy formula in Query, name it as "Value" and in description enter 0.(refer image)

Now, place this dummy formula as the first measure in Query.(refer below)

and Uncheck the following option (click on Keyfigure, go to Display Tab)

Note- Here consider Revenue1 and Revenue2 are the measures you need to show in pie.

Now map this to pie chart, your tool-tip will appear correctly (see tool-tip in below image)

The problem with this method is, an additional legend will show up.(refer below image)

If you are not showing, legends then this will not be a problem at all.

But if you want to show legends, then you have to create legends manually using textbox and images and show as legends.

Solution 2 - This will not be applicable for all the scenarios. But looking at your initial view, it is implicating that you have actually only one key-figure and splitting it as "VERYGOOD", "GOOD", "BAD", and "VERYBAD". So, it is actually a structure with key-figure.

You can convert this as a structure without key-figure and your measure in column. And mapping this to Pie chart will fix the issue automatically. (refer below image)

Hi Michael,

We are having the same issue regarding the tool-tips; however we are also filtering based upon the selection made in the chart. It appears that it isn't just the tool-tips that are incorrect but the data selection behind it; this is because we noticed when you made a selection, it would apply only one filter for every section clicked on, rather than the selection made by the user.

Did you manage to raise this with SAP at all? It would be good to find out whether this will be fixed in SP1 or SP2 going forward.

Do you mean the pie chart selects the first measure?  You could go to the binding in Data Selection under Properties to select the second measure as follows:

If I'm misunderstanding, could you share more screen shots?

I have four measures which are aggregated in the row section of the initial view.

I don't have any other object in the initial view. The data source itself contains several dimensions which are not part of the PIE Chart view. They are only for filtering the data.

Is there a workaround for just displaying the values in the Tooltip without labels?

By the way the standard functionality for Data Labels with PIE Charts are almost useless. (overlapping text, percentages etc.)

That's why I'm looking for another solution.

Hi Michael - I definitely see the issue now; thank you for your screen shots.  I experience the same issue.

I think this is a bug- you are right it always shows the first measure.  I recommend sending an incident to SAP Support.

I am not aware of a work around to not show the labels; I will continue to research - but for now please report this to SAP

An idea to hide the labels - see - use CSS example - instead of displaying the label in red make it hidden/invisible
