SAP Data Services

Hello Experts;

Apologies if this question was asked and answered previously. Where is the SAP Data Service actually ran? Is it "run" on the actual HANA appliance or is it "run" on its own physical / virtual server or is it a service that "runs" on a SAP BW or other Central Systems / Application server? If the SAP Data Service is run on the HANA appliance, does it run on the master-node and if that's the case, what is the sizing or impact on the HANA master-node?

Thanks In Advance

Hello David,

Data Services is installed on a separate server I.e. not on the SAP HANA appliance.

Thanks Marc;

Can one SAP Data Services support multiple HANA appliances (at a physical location) or is it one per productive SID? Also, I'd imagine SAP Data Services is installed ontop of SAP NetWeaver Application Server, yes?

Thanks Again for the prompt reply.

DS certainly can connect to multiple systems be it HANA or otherwise. It's a complete ETL solution and fully supports many to many connections.

You can find all the details here: SAP Data Services 4.2 – SAP Help Portal Page

Installation is on Windows or Unix servers. Although you technically could install it on the same server as SAP NetWeaver, this would work only if you have low workloads or are not concerned with sizing. So typically DS will have it's own dedicated hardware.

No problem.

We'd likely simple provision a suitable-sized RHEL 6.x VM to run SAP Data Services by itself then have it connect to possibly multiple productive HANA's and a single HADOOP. Make sense?

Thanks again for the reply. This really helps me.
