Hello All,

Can anyone provide me the details on the information which we require to make a clone of Production system.

I know system id, Client and Network connections are required to make a clone of one system. What else system information is required before doing the system copy.

Thanks and Best Regards,

Aman

Hello Micheal,

Thanks for your answer,

I understood the cloning part from LVM point of view. After cloning , We have the next step as

SYSTEM-RENAME. Which files we need to rename at OS and DB level. What is the easiest way to do the same.Is there any document for system rename operation from LVM side.

Thanks and Best Regards,

Aman

Hi Aman,

you need the system rename tool which is now part of the sl-toolset.

Hi Aman,

To make a copy of existing system see the bewlo steps,

1. Take offline file system backup of system.

2. create file system on new server same as existing system.

3. restore file system backup on new server.

4. Copy user (<SID>ADM and ORA<SID> in case of oracle) home directiry in new system.

5. Change hostname in profile file of users.

6. Change hostname of system in file listner.

7. Change hostname of system in file SAP profile (make copy of existing sap profile).

Try to start your new system.

This may help you.

Cloning of a SAP system. The deciding points for the cloning process will be.

- what DBMS are you using.

- what storage technology you have.

- your system UT(ABAP/Dual stack/Java only).

- From what i know, hetrogeneous cloning of a SAP system is not possible. for Hetrogeneous System copy, you can only use R3load based system copy.

If you can give me the above details, i can give you more specific options for your case.

Hello Michael,

Thanks for the reply.

I have gone through LVM. As LVM as also mentioned before copying the data , We can make clone. My main concern is what information will be copied in Clone from production to Quality system Like system id, Client and Network connections, operating system files.

Can we do heterogeneous cloning of SAP Systems.

Thanks and best Regards,

Aman

Hello Aman,

LVM will copy basically the disks containing your OS and Database and all the files contained in there. So you can not use LVM to do a Heterogenous system copy. The only way is a so called OS/DB migration.

Hello Aman,

there are so called system copy guides from SAP. You have to search for System copy guide for your specific SAP component. In these guides all the steps are described. If you want to do this in an automated way, you can take a look at the SAP NetWeaver Landscape virtualization Management Software. (http://scn.sap.com/docs/DOC-25771).This allows you to do an automated end to end clone, copy or refresh.

Kind Regards

Michael
