I'm fairly new to BO and web intelligence, so this may be a very naive question.
What is the relationship between BOXI and WEBI? I have the idea that the queries designed in WEBI lead an independent existence in BOXI, but I can't find any documentation that answers this one way or another.
Can anyone give me an authorative answer, or point me to some documentation that might explain the architecture better? Thanks.
Request clarification before answering.
Hi,
This is very simple and staright forward question.
The Business Objects Enterprise XI R2 is the total product suite that is leveraged by Business Objects
The BOE product suite consists of various tools/modules
1) Designer and Business View Manager: these two are used to cretae a connection with the existing Datwarehouse/ Database
2) Desktop Intelligence and Web Intelligence: these two are used for Query and Analysis purposes ( for Reporting)
Desktop Intelligence: this is a stand alone application used to creat reports
Web Intelligence: as the name suggests this is reporting tool available on web through browsers like Internet Explorer, Netscape etc
3) Central Management Console(CMC) and Central Configuration Manager(CCM): these two are used to administer the servers, users and content.
CMC: This is a web tool used to manage users, content and servers.
CCM: this is a stanalone tool used to mange servers.
4) Performance Manager and Dash Board manager: these two are used to create scorecards, dashboards, goals and track the performance.
5)Infoview: This is comon plat form which provides access to all documents, to web Intelligence, performance manager etc.
Hope this finds helpful and answers your question!

the concept of the business intelligence system that its giving the user ability to create their reports by their own on differenct datasources, and how they can do that and they dont know even to write SQL statments or formula
hence the SQL is known only by the IT ppl of developers.
so here in this point, users use WebIntelligence to create reports based on some semantic layer "Universe"
the IT ppl create the universes since they are more ralted with programming and database design and development.
they export those universes to the "BO" repository.
and arrange the access rights for it.
and from here the users can access this universes from the WebIntelligence to create reports based on their needs without even to know wats SQL.
you can have some documents from business objects support from
http://support.businessobjects.com/documentation/product_guides/default.asp
select the product version you want.
good luck

To summarize, BOXI is the suite platform and WebI is a part of it; the Query, Reporting & Analysis tool. You can find more information on http://www.businessobjects.com/product/catalog/xi/.
