Hi All,

Does anyone know the difference between object type selection "Infocube" and "Data Transfer Process" in DELETE INDEX process type of process chain.

I did setup my process chains with Infocube but a bit curious to understand the difference.

Hi,

you are creating the delete index on cube.

it is act as the smiler i am thinking, if you use the delete index it will improve the performance.

DTP also part of the info cube -> if you select the DTP it will ask the DTP technical name -> browse and choose the DTP technical name .

if you select the info cube -> directly give the info cube name only..

Thanks,

Phani.

Hi Phani,

Yup. I understand the reason behind it.But was wondering what is the difference between these 2 object types.

Obviously it is allowing me select DTP or Infocube depending on object type selection.

Also, looks like I can only select the DTPs that pushes the data into infocubes alone.

So you are saying that both are the same except for object selection?

Hi Devi,

now i tested my system i did not see any difference.

DTP  is dependent object of info cube. - if you any option will act as the same.

delete index improve the loading performance.

Thanks,

Phani.

Hi Devi,

Though the question is answered, I would like to add my point here.

  • If the Object type is ' Infocube', then it will delete the entire indexing of the Infocube which increases the data loading process as Kodanda Pani said.
  • If the Data target (say Infocube) has  multiple sources (say one from DSO, another from Data source), then you shall have two different DTP's for them. Hence, if you want to enhance the data loading only for DSO -----> Infocube, then you shall use the Object type as 'DTP' and provide the latter DTP's technical name and execute it. So, the entire indexing is not deleted for the cube.

Hope, it gives you additional clarity on your doubt.

Hi Gokul,

Thanks heaps. That sounds clear to me.

I tried searching online but could not find the real reason so thought of taking some experts opinion on this.

Thanks for putting some light on it ..
