Good day All

We are planning a refresh of a DEV system and I need to export(backup) the Cloud ALM tables from the DEV system with report /SDF/CALM_SYS_REFRESH.

The report is mentioned in the house keeping section of below link

SAP S/4HANA and SAP Business Suite 7 | SAP Help Portal

Doing the export with the report is not an issue but I am struggling to understand how to manage the transport of copies that the report creates.

The export must be done for the DEV system and the transport will obviously not be imported to QA and PRD as the tables are system specific. The report creates a backup of the tables which should be imported back into the DEV system after the refresh.

The transport of copies is created without a target system. When I try to release the transport I get a warning that I need to Specify a transport target.

If I edit the transport of copies to add a Target I add the DEV system details and get an error: Source client = target client not possible for transports.

I can still Save the Target details even though the error is displayed, but when I try to release the Transport of Copies, I get similar error as above.

I am not familiar with transport of copies and I guess when I release the ToC it shoud create the data and co files for the transport, which should be used to reimport the tables into the DEV system after the refresh.

Is there another way that the ToC should be released, something else that should be added as the Target or does "Export this request and save it" means something else?

Appreciate any guidance.

Werner

Hello Werner,

you need to specify a target system for your ToC otherwise it will not create co and datafiles , like you already mentioned.

you can give the qas or prd system as target but do not import this transport in these systems (check if you have maybe import all job running in your target system).

After you released the transport just delete it from the buffer in the target system. you can then use the co and datafile to import it into your DEV System after systemrefresh.

otherwise you can also check sap note

3550401 - Target System unknown error when running transaction /SDF/CALM_SYS_REFRESH - SAP Cloud ALM

Thank you very much qwertie. Adding target and deleting transport from queue after release worked. Co and data files were created.

Transport of Copies (ToC) are easy going transports which skip the strict rules of the CTS. They ignore transport routes and locks. If you do this often, you may also add a virtual system (example: DUM) to your transport domain and use this as a target. That is already enough to have the ToC exported.

like described by Riccardo , using a Dummy System for target is also a good approach
