Can some please help me understand PPMS and Master component repository ? Would be nice, if some one can define each one and explain, how they are related to each other ? would like to know more about the sync happens between them by some xml file exchange...

Master Component Repository mirrors the data from SAP Products and Production Management System.
The repository contains updated information about all SAP Products, which includes version numbers, patch level, and their dependencies.
