I got a doubt ..can i use Oracle 9i JDBC drivers for establishing connection with oracle db of version 9i and oracle 8i.

You can use either Oracle 8 or Oracle 9 or Oracle 10g.
But be specific on choosing the drivers
Oracle 8i/9i=> OJDBC14.jar
Oracle10g=>OJDBC14_g.jar for configuring in Visual Admin.

Are you sure for OJDBC14_g.jar, cuz this driver has been compiled for debugging and tracing purposes :

You can use oracle JDBC driver for both versions. Just have a look into this link
