odbc xml driver

Hi,

Currently we use the ODBC xml driver to access data with CR v. 10.5;  Migrating to CR13, is there and end of life for the use of this specific 4.2 driver ? If so, which current version of a ODBC xml driver is to be used with CR 13 .net runtime and where can it be downloaded ?

Hi Luc,

Who made that ODBC XML driver? We don't have one, Ludek pointed you to the Native XML driver which I don't believe you are using.

If you open the 32 bit ODBC Administrator and click on the Drivers tab and scroll down to where you see the one you used can you paste the screen capture in which driver you used previously?

Hold to Alt key down and then hit the Print Screen key, this copies just the top box.

Using Firefox you can then just past it into this post.

Hi Don,

It is as you pointed out the odbc xml driver 4.2 for which we seek a newer version, if this version is to be considered as end of life.  The application however works fine with the current 4.2 version, but I notice that in the CR 2013 v. 14 full product, a 7.X odbc xml driver is included. Is this driver available seperately to be used with the CR13 runtime for .net ?

Hi Luc,

Ah, no it is not available as a separate download. We tried that in CR 2008 but it because a licensing nightmare so it's embedded in CR Designer install again.

Unfortunately they changed the way we install so it's not able to extract just those components now.

I did ask Product if we could make then available and they said no, due to licensing. Since CR for VS is a "free" product I don't believe we could distribute it either.

Possibly your only option is to purchase the DataDirect ( they bought Merant ) separately and distribute accordingly... Other option is to include a copy of CR Designer with each install of your application. Licensing costs of course for each CR D install.

Other option is to use the Native XML driver that ludek pointed out. It is available for download.

Another option is to use a ADO.NET DB driver which can also connect to an XML file. I believe it is based on OLE DB.

There are samples on how to connect to XML files natively, search and you'll find examples.

It is version 13.x and is installed with CRVS. There is also a separate MSI for the xml runtime:
