I want to open discussion on this topic and found this topic. So I decided to write here.

My license includes 10 named users. But I can't create concurrent user. Should we get additional license for concurrent user or is there any way to create it?

Rohini,

The user is either created as a named or concurrent user during account creation. When logged into the CMC, under users, then for each user's profile, there is an entry towards the bottom of the screen entitled "Connection Type:" with a radio button for either concurrent or named. Based upon what is chosen at that time will dictate how the user will appear to be logged into the system. Of course, the administrator should know the license scheme and plug this item accordingly with each new account that is built....

Is there any Audit report or a way to check if a user is logged in as a concurrent user or named user?

Thanks,

Rohini.

With the License Measurement Tool for BO Platform you can get an information, how many users are named or concurrent users.

It seems clear enough to me: there are 2 types of licenses. Under the named users license scheme you need as many named user licenses as you have registered users. Under the concurrent users license scheme you buy a license for a number of users logged in at the same time so you can have many more potential users than on your license but only the number on your license will be able to log on at any given time. When that number is reached you can only log in if someone else logs off whereas with named users you are guaranteed a seat.

Obviously there is an interest to go for concurrent users if you have many occasional users and no big peaks in demand. Also, obviously, prices per user are different in named and concurrent schemes.

Amr,

(from the BOEXI_Admin_en.pdf):

New users are created as named users

New user accounts are configured to use named user licenses.Named user licenses are associated with specific users and allowpeople to access the system based on their user name and password. This provides named users with access to the system regardless ofhow many other people are connected. You must have a named userlicense available for each user account created using this option.

New users are created as concurrent users

New user accounts are configured to use concurrent user licenses.Concurrent licenses specify the number of people who can connectto BusinessObjects Enterprise at the same time. This type oflicensing is very flexible because a small concurrent license cansupport a large user base. For example, depending on how oftenand how long users access BusinessObjects Enterprise, a 100 userconcurrent license could support 250, 500, or 700 users.

After reading all of this I'm still not sure what it all means, other than "it's a licensing thing". Good luck!
