Hi,

Is it mandatory to have  Data Services/ Information Steward installed & configured to have the Impact Analysis & Data Lineage capabilities in the SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform ? Is it only from SAP BOBJ BI 4.0 Platform ?

Hi Karim,

If your only going to use Metadata Management part of Information Steward you don't need Data Services.

Data Services works with the Data Insight part of Information Steward.

You mean that I don not need to install Data Services to get the Metadata Management in Information Steward ? i.e. it is included in the SAP BOBJ Platform (as it is included with Information Steward) ?

If you're just going to be using just Metadata Management then DS isn't needed.

Data Services is optional, so it is not a required prerequisite to install
Information Steward. Some components of Data Services are required if Data
Insight is to be used:

1. DS Metadata Browsing Service, as it provides Data Insight users the
   capability to browse and import metadata from different data sources.
2. DS View Data Service, as it provides the capability to view the external
   data in Data Insight connections in IS.
3. DS Job Server, it provides the engine processes that perform the Data
   Insight profiling and rule tasks.
4. DS Repository Manager, this creates the required Data Insight objects in the
   IS repository.
5. DS Server Manager, this creates the IS  job server group and job servers and
   associates them to the IS repository.
   Note:  Information Steward users who do
   not purchase the full Data Services version do not require a Data Services
   license key to install Data Services.  Instead, when prompted for a license key
   during the partial Data Services installation, indicate the Information Steward
   license key.

• Data Services is prerequisite when the primary install of Information
  Steward is required. A minimum of Data Services  job server
  component is necessary for the  Information Steward repository creation.
• Data Services is optional, when performing expanded installation, so it is
  not a required prerequisite for this installation type.

Karim,

Let me  clarify that DS is an Install Time dependency.
It’s a pre-requisite to install IS because we internally use some DS capabilities to create the IS repo itself. IS Installer (in primary install mode) will not proceed without a DS install on that server.

But you're using only MM, then DS components are not required during run-time.
