Material Master Product Category

We are in the process of converting from ECC to S4.

In ECC, the Material Master Product Category field (ATTP frame) is free form. There is no value table supporting the  domain. Once you entered a value (any value), it subsequently appears in the dropdown. See the highlighted documentation below:

“The product category works based on content. There is no Customizing needed. Any value can be entered here and can be reused through the value help once assigned to the first trade item. When the product category is deleted from the last trade item, it ceases to exist and is not available in the value help anymore.

In S4, the domain does have an assigned value table (/STTPEC/PRDCAT) that is empty, and thus no values appear in the drop down.  Users can still enter any value, but it’s not “saved” in a dropdown.

I don’t know how to populate that value table. When I tried via SM30, it dumps.
