Hi, while being fairly new to the RAP Model, I had earlier undergone the opensap course for gcts. I also came across the Manage Software Component app under the ABAP environment on btp, wherein you can create the branched, do cloning and pulling of data.
I want to know if there is more to this app than what meets the eye, and can be used for transports alone, or is a complete gcts setup with a separate github repository is needed.
TIA.
Request clarification before answering.
Hello Ruchir,
There is a remote Git repository for each software component managed by SAP in the cloud.
No separate GitHub repository is needed.
For more information please refer to ABAP Lifecycle Management and in particular ABAP Environment Specifics.
Best regards,
Peter

Thank you for you comment.
I am still confused. This is a functionality that lacks all the important functionality of the Devops with gcts (which uses a separate repository) like working for the local branch and then merging with the main branch, so that developers can work independently., but still there is an option to create a child branch.
Is there a difference in use case.
Also I am not sure how is the integration with Jenkins, or Project Pirper to be achieved with this. I guess I have to do a lot more research.
Hi Ruchir,
merging of branches is currently not possible with gCTS in ABAP Environment.
The difference of using gCTS in S/4HANA and gCTS in ABAP Environment is the cloud environment with use of the Manage Software Components app as well as the mentioned SAP-managed remote git repositories.
SAP does not commit to deliver this feature but it is currently planned to deliver a "Bring-your-own-git" feature in early 2023 and later. This will make it possible to use your own git repository as remote repository and possibly enable additional gCTS features for use in ABAP Environment.
Integration in Jenkins pipeline is possible via the ABAP Environment Pipeline in piper: ABAP Environment - Clone Repositories.
Best regards,
Peter
