Import a Workflow using an XML file in Tcode SWDD

Hello,

I have a problem in the workflow builder- Tcode SWDD:

I am trying to copy workflow from one system (ECC 5.0) to another one (ECC 6.0) ? I use transaction Workflow-> Import/export->Export to xml files and import the xml files again, but the new workflow is different from the original one. The steps do not have the same numbering and the Workflow graphic is far from being identical to the old one.

Could someone explain me the reason of this problem in detail and how it could be solved? It's really a big workflow and would need to avoid creating it manually.

Thank you very much for your help.

Best regards,

Sylvain

Hi , I tried to 1st export the workflow from one system , then 1 XML file got created in the desktop. After that, I import the XML in swdd in another system , All the steps and containers were visible in the left hand side , but in the workflow graphical space , it still shows the undefined step only , the Graphical view in the main section still shows undefined step , and no Steps was imported to the graphical view...is something I am doing wrong or any step missing ?....the imported wf is also active now without any errors still the WF doesnt show the imported steps in graphical view

Hello,

That the graphic and the step numbering isn't the same isn't important, how else does it differ?

Did you create the referenced tasks (TS......) first?

Hello,

The main problem that I had with the steps is that most names were not the same as the old Workflow. Instead of having the correct description I had some coding commands which created a bunch of errors when I tried to perform the syntax check.

I believe you are right. In the new system (ECC 6.0) I do not have the Business Engineering objects like the tasks "TS....". I will create them first and try the Workflow import again after.

I will let you know if it corrected the error or not.

I am bit sceptical about the whole XML exporting/importing functionality. Would it be finally just easier to manually rebuild the workflow template? I have had major problems already within one system when my workflow has been referring to some data dictionary objects (such as structures) which do not exist - causing short dumps when trying to open the template with SWDD etc.

Hi Sylvain

Its not possible that way. Logically think your are trying to put the details from ECC5 to ECC6. Its impossible. It will not work that way. This is to be done in the post migration procedure. Simply exporting from ECC5 and importing to ECC6 will not work. Check the link for idea how to take care of migration procedure.
