How to pull Data into python from SAP BW?

Hi, I am a data scientist and do not have a prior background of SAP.

I need to pull data from SAP BW to python for some analysis, but I am not able to find the right answer to this.

I Found a library "hdbcli" which is for connecting with SAP HANA. Can I use this library for the aforementioned task?

Hi, keep in mind that SAP BW is an application, not a database. The first thing you would need to answer is what type of object/content do you need to read from BW (Query, Cube, DSO, aDSO, HANA tables, other DB-tables, etc.). Additionally, you need to know on which Database your BW runs on (HANA, Oracle, MS SQL Server, etc.). The answers to these questions will dictate the possibilities for connecting from an external application.

The library you mention is for connecting directly to HANA databases, which could include BW, but also other HANA-based applications. This would also bypass the BW application semantic layer and you would be restricted to reading HANA views and tables.

First you must check "Open Analysis Interfaces" for your BW version.
