how to create master data..

Dear all,

I am new to master data management. can u plz tell me how to create data using predefined process if available any. also plz tell me whether there is any validation hierarchy in MDM.

Hi Barath,

For creating Master Data there are two ways either you can import data from the source like any excel, xml, tab delimited, fixed text file using MDM Import Manager or you can create the data centrally using MDM Data Manager.

There is no inbuild validations provided by MDM but you can create your own validations from the available set of functions.

You can also download master data from remote system and upload the same in MDM. For this you need to fetch lookup data first using MDM_GX transaction and MDM_CLNT_EXTR for main table data extraction

Hi Bharath,

SAP MDM is for managing master data,Mostly Master Data creation is restricted in the ERP system where there are transcation to run on them and inventory controls to manage.

Master Data within MDM is created only in an CMDM Scenario only when you have already taken care of the existing duplicate and inaccurate master data and passed them through a one time filter activity for cleansing either using MDM or any other tool.

Only once you have cleansed the existing master data can you go for creation of new master data centrally using MDM ,this is the correct and recommented way to handle the flow of master dat ain any organisation.

Generally master data like material or customer are created in different sytems in an IT Landscape.We cannot jsut go ahead and close the creation and management of master dta ain teh respective sytem and bring it under MDM.

- So the standard process are to let Master data of nay business object be created in the respective sytems

- Then extract this data using Extraction programmes or XI.

- Then cleanse this data in MDM

- And then allow all future master data creation within MDM centrally using Front end like portal and backend like MDM and then syndictaed this consistent data back to the ERP systems:

Hi Bharat,

As jitendra said, there are two ways for extract the master data from SAP ERP Remote System

MDMGX -- Lookup values

MDM_CLNT_EXTR -- Main values

master data as Customer, material,vendor

on the other hand

You can Import the data from Sources like Access XL n all, Otherwise As per I know there is no special mechanism to create master data.

From the functional point of view you can create it in ERP or any other Remote System with the help of Data Architect.
