Headcount planning powered by SAP Analytics Cloud

Hi Guru,

I'm petty new with SAP Analytics Cloud but I have strong HR background. Now I'm supporting my client to design HR Roadmap evolution in conjunction with Planning and Control revolution, indeed my client is re-thinking about Company Planning and Control model across all lines of business including HR where they are design new headcount (HC) and salary planning (SP) model.

Regarding Headcount and Salary Planning, I'm looking for an integrated solution that allow HR to plan headcount, salary increases and expenses to fulfil the following main requirements:

  • Automate manual activities like position management because today they have lots of manual based procedures, linked Excel-based spreadsheets to track data, making it difficult to adjust if changes to variables are needed for headcount or salary planning.
  • Implement integrated and comprehensive headcount planning with HR & Financial systems to check the impact that headcount or salary adjustments have on the financial forecast and vice versa.
  • Explore and visualize the impact of headcount and salary changes in easy-to-understand charts and graphs and drill down into detail by location or department.
  • Implement integrated solution with HR master data system (SF Employee Central) and Payroll to check filled position, open position and plan new positions along with compensation details.

Considering the latest evolution of SAP Analytics Cloud (e.i. new planning features) and the related roadmap (e.i. Hybrid (live write-back) support for SAP BPC embedded and optimized), I'm would like to understand whether SAP Analytics Cloud could be the RIGHT and BEST solution to manage headcount plan integrated with SuccessFactors and financial planning (SAP BPC will be developed to support financial planning).

For you info, as alternative solution we are checking SuccessFactors Workforce Planning to manage headcount plans.

Could you share SAP guidelines? Is there any world wild SAP client, who have never implemented SAP Analytics Cloud to manage headcount plan integrated with SuccessFactors and financial planning?

Thanks

Regards

Mauro

Thanks Henry for sharing your PoV. Considering the fact that our roadmap will approximately take all 2019 to implement HR Planning and Financial Planning integrated solution, do you think there will be significant improvement on SAC in the meantime that could justify the proposal to immediately invest on SAC instead of going for intermediate SuccessFactors based solution?

Very soon we will start Fit&Gap analysis comparing the following 2 application models to manage headcount planning integrated with financial planning:

1) SF EC (Core HR solution) + WFP (Headcount Planning) + WFA (Reporting/Analytics) + BPC (Financial Planning)

2) SF EC (Core HR solution) + SAC (Headcount Planning & Reporting/Analytics) + BPC (Financial Planning) >> for sure we would like to leverage on hybrid solution with SAC as complementary of BPC.

What would be the SAP Roadmap regarding SAC Planning capabilities?

Thanks

Hi Mauro,

Nice to hear from you, and thanks for such a great question. I'll try get some more eyes here for reply.

This is my opinion, and mine only:

As i see it today, Analytics Cloud can do some nice visualisations of Success Factors data, but it's primarily a BI use-case. Yes Analytics Cloud does have planning capabilities , but as you correctly point out, BPC is positioned as our leading-source with it's enormous feature-set.

As you know, we are typically considered a down-stream client (replicated-to for de-centralized planning etc.) with some write-back capabilities today, and much more coming soon (bi-directional planning for Live data etc)

Similarly, my feeling is that *today* the better place for HR planning is in SuccessFactors. However, as you can probably tell, there are significant engineering investments happening in this area and lots of co-innovation.

For sure, we want Analytics Cloud to fully re-engineer Workforce Analytics and Workforce Planning and bring the SuccessFactors solution "to the next-level".

That being said, I don't believe we are there yet today: i'm not sure we can replace all your known HR planning use-cases with SAC (as it exists today). However, I know these scenarios are being worked on.

At some point in time in the future, I can well imagine SAC being the defacto BI/Plan/Predict "front-end" for all these aforementioned stacks & solutions and i'm very much looking forward to that time.

Kind regards,
Henry

christineangela.mast - did i get that right ?
