Hello lovely SAP Community,

I’m currently a bit confused about the possibilities of Embedded Analytics in S/4HANA Public Cloud.

There seem to be quite a few apps available, such as:

  • Customer Data Browser

  • View Browser

  • Query Browser

  • Manage Reports and KPIs

  • Custom CDS Views

Is there a good guide that explains how to use these apps in practice? There Imo not very user friendly.

What I’d like to do is:

  • Create dashboards

  • Define my own KPIs

  • Build custom reports

If any of you could point me towards a useful guide or share some best practices, I’d really appreciate it!

Kind regards,
Philipp

Hello @Phil_P

Thank you for your question about Embedded Analytics in SAP S/4HANA Public Cloud. I agree it can feel a bit confusing at first, as there are several apps that work together. Let me outline the typical flow and direct you to the most helpful references.

Key Applications and Their Functions

  •  Customer Data Browser / View Browser: Explore available released CDS views as data sources.
  •  Query Browser: Build ad-hoc queries using released or custom views.
  • Custom CDS Views: Create new data sources when standard views do not meet your needs.
  • Manage KPIs and Reports:  Define KPIs, set up tiles, and group them into cards for the Fiori Launchpad.

Typical Workflow

  1.  Find a Data Source → Use View Browser / Customer Data Browser to identify the appropriate CDS view.
  2. Model the Data → If necessary, extend it with Custom CDS Views.
  3. Create Queries → utilise Query Browser to define fields, filters, and aggregations.
  4. Define KPIs and Reports → in Manage KPIs and Reports, build KPIs and display them as tiles or cards.
  5. Surface in Launchpad → assign tiles or cards to business catalogues for end users.

Dashboards versus SAC

Within Embedded Analytics, you can set up KPI tiles, cards, and Overview Pages. For more advanced, multi-visual dashboards, SAP suggests using SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC), which is seamlessly integrated with S/4HANA Cloud and complements Embedded Analytics.
