How good is learning workflow will help for someone who is pursuing his career in EDI? Can you please suggest some good books/ material on workflow?

Hi Krishen,
Workflow is a good think... But if you specialize on EDI firstly you do not need to know all features of workflow.
Usefull information you find actually in the following SAP note:
#116610 IDoc: Notifications from IDoc processing
The note describes step by step in which case you can start a standard workitem to notify the user from ALE hierarchy in case of action required.

Hi,
Workflow is used in different areas like: Approvals, Error handling, Notifications etc.
Error handling part might be applicable for workflow in case of ALE /EDI.
You can refer SAP help for the same.
