Dear Expert,

I want to upgrade current ecc6 OS and DB from current server to new server with detail below

OS : Windows server 2012 R2 upgrade to Windows server 2019

DB : SQL Server 2008 upgrade to SQL Server 2019

Can I upgrade in place (cloning  and restore to new server) or by system copy?

is it any manual activities after upgrade?

Thanks

Hi

1. Could you share your ECC6 support pack(SP) level? As per the SAP note 2807743 minimum support package level is 33.

2. For supporting the DB MS SQL 2019, refer to the SAP Note 2807743

3.  For the SAP on Windows 2019 support, see the SAP note 2751450.

4. For the System copy, check the SAP Note 2779625. You can perform the system copy in MS SQL using the Backup the source DB and restore the DB in the newly built target system, start the SWPM process

Hi,

As per the screenshot, you are using SAP NW version 7.01 SP level 07. To run Windows 2019 with MS SQL 2019, a minimum SP level of 18 is required, as per SAP Note 2807743. On the existing SAP system, you need to upgrade the SP level and begin migrating the system to a new environment.

Hi,

Whether a specific Microsoft Windows Server OS version can be 'in-place' upgraded to an higher OS version is and issue which depends on Microsoft guidelines.
OS 'in-place' upgrade is not valid for all Microsoft OS versions, so I recommend you ask your Microsoft OS partner whether the 'Microsoft OS in-place' upgrade method is valid for achieving OS upgrade from Windows Server OS 2012/2012R2 to 2019 or 2022 versions or not.

For more information see the Microsoft documentation below:
