ECC- Support Pack upgrade

Hi Experts,

* What should be the recommended approach for operation modes for Production system Support pack upgrade?

* Will SUM consider the available dialog and background processes based on the operation modes defined (or) existing WP's in the system overall?

* Is it possible to modify the WP's during preprocessing phase from OS level?

I would appreciate all your inputs and help..

Personally, i do not change the op mode. SUM gives you the possibility to adjust the number of wp for the uptime/downtime phases. Does SUM adjust the shadow instance accoring to your number of wp? Good question, i never thought of that.

You can also adjust the number of R3trans processes and these are of course independend from your op mode but should be adjusted to the available number of cpu.

If you mean the number of R3trans, see above. It is not possible to change the op mode from os level. You could change the instance profile for your shadow instance but i do not know if SUM takes that into account. Just try it and let us know 😉

Hi Daniel.

1. Normally off peak time we use to increase the number of background process, during the time of upgrade background process are required more to create the shadow instance(uptime activities), during our ECC upgrade we increased the background process 15 more in CI as recommend by SAP consultant.

2. During the SUM process it will automatically calculate the number of R3trans based on your hardware,

3, For any SAP parameters will not allow you change the parameters at OS level. all the changes based on the profile parameters as rightly said by Ulf.
