Dynamic Calculations

Hi All,

I am trying to create a calculation that would sum the Inventory value for the current period automatically. So that, if I schedule a monthly refresh of the inventory report, my calculation will automatically roll forward and pick the correct actual month.

At the moment, I can only see filter/input controls that have to be manually updated each month in the widgets.

Is there an automated solution?

Hello phayes1,

There are two ways:

• Dynamic Filters
  You can filter your data using your Time Dimension and selecting a Dynamic filter.
  1. Create a table or chart using the Time Dimension from your model. In this example, I am using the dimension named Date in my model, it can have another name in yours
  2. In the builder area, select Date dimension > click the Funnel icon to filter and select Filter by Range
  3. In the screen "Set Date Range for Time" you can select the granularity, how far you want to look back and ahead (based on the granularity)
     

     
     

     

• Calculated Measures > Value Input Control > Current Period.

Some time we may want to add offset in our selection. Eg: Say we are in 1st week of June and month end is still in progress for May. See what fits in your requirement.
