Domain Name with underscore

Hello,

Do anyone has domain name with underscore in your envirnoment? If so, Does sap support domain name with underscore? Do you have any major problem with SAP? Did sap provided any work around solution?

I am kind of middle ground on this. We have domain consolidation project is going on. But We have underscore in main domain name. We didn't implement portal or java envirnoment yet. This is kind of future in our environment.

I didn't find any documentation on domain name conventions. I did see couple of questions on domain name with underscore in SDN. That is not answered completely. Thread break in end.

I did open SAP OSS issue. They didn't help much on this. I asked about standard document on domain naming conventions. They don't have. They told me to inform documenation department about bug.

As per Microsoft, it support domain name with underscore. Cisco routers has problem with underscore. But they do say clearly supported or unsupported.

I am not finding anything on SAP.

Any help is appreciated.

Googling this comes up with a wikipedia page that explains that underscores can cause problems. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hostname. If it's likely to cause problems, then it's best to avoid doing it.

I understand your point. Thanks for quick post reply.

Changing domain name costs lot of money in any company. They have to go through all their applications and servers. They have to test everything. ( Whole data center applications and users laptops {small applications}).

As per general naming convention, it is good have no underscore. But one of our previous administrator put this underscore. ( 10 years back).

I like your final sentence about "not an official SAP reply".

Is their any specfic document to say ( not general document ) about SAP underscore. If SAP can provide solutions for underscore, it means...business saves lot of money.

I am looking someone already working with underscore and SAP. How do they workaround the problem?

Are they desperate to change domain name?

Did anyone in SAP faced this problem?
