Hi there,
I started out (as a developer) with a SAP HANA One on Suse image (rev 52). After about a 6 weeks of dev usage for some reason the volumes wouldn't mount and I terminated the image. I was in mid stream experimenting with Text and SmallText columns and text search capabilities.
To reduce my costs during this learning phase I created a new 'free' developer image, I go to create a table and lo and behold there is no Text or SmallText column type listed in Hana Studio for a column store table. Is this a restriction in the developer edition?
Also I can't open a browser window and navigate to a server admin page to start and stop my database. (I didn't reboot yet after changes my hosts file) Is this also a difference between the editions?
I also notice that my Hana One Platform had a demo schema loaded with example data. What other differences are there?
I my gosh, I just noticed that the developer edition I installed is rev 48. It looks like I reverted to an older release!
Man, talk about confusing and wasting time and effort...
What I really wanted was a smaller image that I can use for development and learning that is current and cost effective....
Request clarification before answering.
Hi Yakov,
SAP HANA Developer edition - is for learning, POC / R&D purpose and one cannot go productive on SAP HANA Developer edition also developer edition Instance are small compared to SAP HANA One Instances.
Developer edition is charged less and SAP didnot charges for SAP HANA. Whatever charges come goes to AWS.
With SAP HANA One Instances you can go productive and HANA one Instances is charged by SAP + AWS = its $.99 Cents goes to SAP and $2.49 goes to AWS.
For your need best would be SAP HANA Developer edition as you want to use HANA for learning and development - and its cost effective.
Regards
Kumar.
