SPAM:Support Package Manager.

If you are upgarding the patches of your existing components to the latest or to your required patch level,we will do it by using SPAM.

for ex:SAP_BASIS is on pl 9 .for upgrading this to latest(pl 13 or 14)

we will do this from SPAM.

SAINT:Add-On Installation Tool

If you want to instal a new component in your system,which is not there in the system we will do this by SAINT.

For ex:ST-PI is not existing in ur system,u want to install then u need to install the add-on for that component by SAINT.

After the installation you have to patch this to latest by using SPAM.

If you want to upgarde the release of the component we have to perform this by using SAINT.

for ex:PI_BASIS is on 2003_1_640 if u want upgrade this to 2004_1_640 then u need to perform this by using SAINT

Hi,

for ex:if you goto SPAM>Package Level>u will find the component and software component.

software component means the release of that component.

SAP releases addon-upgrades for that component.

If you want to upgrade the software component(release) u need to perform this by SAINT.

Hi Venkatesh,

SAINT is used for adding an add-on in to the

SAP system.As you dont have PI_BASIS

software component in your default installation

of sap system you will install that component

using the SAINT.Now it becomes as a

component in your system as SAP_BASIS.

Then for updating the functionallity to this

component you use the SPAM as usual

to update the software component.

Reward points if helpfull.

Regards,

Vamshi.

SPAM :

It is used to upgrade the Support pack level of the existing component.

Eg : ST-PI - 740 - 26 --> ST-PI - 740 - 28

Here - ST-PI : Component, 740 - Release, 26 - SP level

SAINT :

Whereas SAINT is used to upgrade the release version of the existing component.

Eg : ST-A/PI - 01V_731 - 003 --> ST-A/PI_01W_731 - 001.

Here - ST-A/PI : Component, 01V_731 & 01W_731 - Release, 003 & 001 are the SP Level.

And also, we use SAINT to install new component and add on to our machine.

Thank you!
