Request clarification before answering.
1) Active Directory is a database based system that provides authentication, directory, policy, and other services in a Windows environment
LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol) is an application protocol for querying and modifying items in directory service providers like Active Directory, which supports a form of LDAP

Enterprise accounts exist only in the BOE CMS repository the otheres would be imported from an external identity provider. If you already have an AD system and do not want to recreate or dual-,manage the users then simply connect the setup and the users are created and passwords synch'd. Also if the AD user is disabled the user cannot access BOE either.

It is all depends on what environment (LDAP/AD) you have in your organization.
Please goggle them for actual definitions. Refer BO Admin Guide , for how to configure them in CMC.
