Hi Madhusudhan,

BW is a Data Warehousing Concept, Whereas in DW they will use different tools for diffrent task like u might be hered about DW EX: Informatica,Cognos,Hyperien Sybase,Abinito etc.. But this are all different each one wehere as coming to SAP BW it's a SAP Product it Deals with all the tools with BW like Modeling, Extraction,Reporiting... and DW is Based on Star Schema and BW is Based On Extended Star Schema. Ex: if ur in a room u have so many chairs with in and some chairs are out side pulling chair with in the room would be easier rather than going for another room.. Assume that Tools are chairs and room is ur Concept(DW or BW).

I think It helps...Assign Points if it helps u...

Data warehouse is used to store, manage and retrive required/historical data efficiently. The data warehouse is used for hitorical data and center of the business intelligence environment.

BW is use to analyze historical data (also data warehouse but for all modules like hr, pm, sd, mm etc.) and plus it comes with reporting tools like BEx Analyzer, WAD, Report Designer to produce report.

hai reddy.

major difference over data warehouse and business information warehouse is the business content available in bw.

predefined business object's for different applications like (sd,mm,ppfi,qm)this will be available for bw. so you don't need to create report's from scratch.

2. data warehouse uses different tools for each application like(Modeling, reporting, extraction). but in BW these are integrated.

hope this help you

Hi,

SAP BW consists among other things of components for data management (Data Warehousing Workbench), extensive data modeling capabilities, an embedded analytical engine, a suite of rich front-end analytical tools refererred to as Business Explorer (BEx), and operational tools used for importing the most current transactional data into the system. It may be helpful to consider layers that make up the structure of SAP's BI solution:Extraction, Transformation and Load (ETL) layer - responsible for extracting data from a specific source, applying transformation rules, and loading it into SAP BW system. Data warehouse area - responsible for storing the information in various types of structures, including multidimensional structures called InfoCubes. Reporting - responsible for accessing the information in data warehouse area and presenting it in a user-friendly manner to the analyst or business user. Planning - Provides capabilities for the user to run simulations and perform tasks such as budget calculations

A data warehouse is the main repository of an organization's historical data, its corporate memory. It contains the raw material for management's decision support system. The critical factor leading to the use of a data warehouse is that a data analyst can perform complex queries and analysis, such as data mining, on the information without slowing down the operational systems
