Database error: [Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified. (IES 10901) (Error: INF )

Hello everyone,

I'm presenting some issues creating Webi reports with an universe that has an Excel tables as base.

I follow the next steps:

1.- I donwloaded some tables from SAP ERP in excel format and created it a single file for all with different sheets and without any format.

2.- I added the DNS system on ODBC32 with Microsoft Excel Driver.

3.- I opened the Information design tool, created it the project, the .cnx, .cns, added the data foundation (with and without joins, with and without primary keys) and the empresarial layer. Finally, I saved it in the repository without problems.

4.- I opened the Web Intelligence Rich Client, select the option to create one Webi report with an universe. (I tried in the Launch Pad too)

5.- I select some dimensions to call the query and the result is this:

What do you recomended me? Is a DNS problem? A database problem?

Specs:

Windows 10 Home 64bits

Sap BussinessObjects BI Platform 4.1 Client Tools SP2

why you have created universe on excel file?

you can directly create reports on top of excel.

You can directly create report on excel file from webi rich client.

in both the cases universe or direct report on excel you need to place the file at BO server.advantage of direct report on excel to skip one layer which is universe.

Oh god, I forgot that. You are right Amit but the point is that my boss asked me to make an Universe with that information with an Excel as base. Let me show it the result with the excel and comment later. Like an extra information, how can avoid the error that i have without the excel file directly? Do you see any error in my process?

Have you created the DSN at BO server and placed the excel file there?

once you publish the universe ,universe will take the path from BO server.

I created it the DSN on Windows ODBC32 and placed the Excel file there. How can I publish the file on BO server? Can you provide me some link? Forgive me for the insistence, but this issue have me confused.

It's fine if you copied the excel file at BO server and created the system DSN.one more thing you need to keep the same DSN name at BO server which you have used in your machine

Hi Juan,

You'll have to create the same DSN on the BO Server, with same name and other details, as you created on your system.

You'll need to save that Excel file on a Shared drive though, which can be accessed from BO Server as well, having the required permissions.

Hello everyone. Sorry for my late response. Well, Amit and Mahboob, I try your sugestion, but can't use it the Excel file directly. I need create the universe to do the combinations and the configurations that cannot be handle from Excel. The error persist. I can't access to the universe from Launchpad or Webi. I created the connection on the server and the client machine and the result is the same. Can you tell me the steps to create the DNS on the BO server? Only to know if i'm following the correct steps. In other way, I give the rights in security editor and don't works.

I really appreciate some guideliness or notes that can provide me.

You can start the ODBC Data Source Administrator from the start menu under Run odbcad32.exe

1. In the ODBC Data Source Administrator, click the System DSN tab.
2. Choose the Add pushbutton.The Create New Data Source dialog box appears.
3. Choose the driver; for example, Microsoft Excel Driver (*.xls).The ODBC Microsoft Excel Set Up dialog box appears.
4. Enter the following data:
   • Data Source NameHere you can enter a name of your choice for the file that you want to use as a data source. This name is displayed later in PCo on the ODBC Database Connection tab with the addition (System DSN).
   • DescriptionYou can enter a short description here.
   • VersionChoose the Excel version of your file.
5. Choose the Select Workbook pushbutton to select the directory and the Excel file you want.
6. Confirm by choosing OK.The System DSN is now displayed in the ODBC Data Source Administrator and in the PCo Management Console on the ODBC Database Connection tab.
7. 
   

After creating the system DSN create new relation connection in IDT.

Select the right excel driver based on the your  excel version.

Hi Amit.

Following your instructions i have a problem. At the moment when i'm creating the DNS with odbcad32.exe i have the following screens:

Doesn't appear the excel driver. Is it necessary install office 64bits version? I have the 32bits version installed.

goto the start->search->type odbc32 you will ge the option something like "32 bit odbc" select that one try.

Hi Amit,

I did it the steps and the error is the same. I created a query in the IDT and show the data. But in the moment that I try to run on launchpad and Webi, I get the following errors.

Launchpad:

Web Intelligence Rich Client

Can it be an installation problem? Rights?

Keep in mind that the Client uses 32bit ODBC, but the BO Server uses 64Bit. So, you create the same DSN on the BO Server with the same Name, but using the Control Panel-Administrator-ODBC, which is the 64bit one. That DSN must be on any Node that has a connection server. NOTE: You may also need 64bit drivers installed on the BO server.

I'm also getting same Database/ODBC error in BI lauchpad - WebI, while creating a report on top of Universe (Stored Procedure based) which is connected to my SQL Server Database. But at Universe level (UDT) am able to see data (Table values) in my Client laptop.

Steps I have followed:

1. Setup ODBC drivers in my laptop (Client) for SQL data source.

2. My Admin had done setup ODBC at BOBJ server level.

2. Created Universe: created connection by selecting the ODBC added in 1st step. Connection test Successful.

3. taken required stored procedure in Universe and able to see Data values from SQL at Universe level.

4. Trying to create WebI report from BI lauchpad on top of Uiverse created in step 2&3 and getting below screenshot error. But able to create report and see data from "WebI Rich Client" as its local to my laptop and can save at BOBJ server then tried to open from BI launcpad but same error...cant see data or modify in BI lauchpad.

Can you please suggest what is missing here ?

BOBJ - BI 4.1 SP5; Win10

Hi kiran, did you install the Microsoft Access Redistributable? That error correspond to this complement. You must install it depending of your office version.

For example, if you have Office 2010 32 bits, install Microsoft Access Redistributable 2010 32 bits.

Sorry for my missunderstood. In my case i was working with an universe with excel data. In your case i don't see clearly. Now, did you do the configuration on the server and on the client machine?

Remember use the odbc drivers of 32 and 64 bits.

Well, i don't know how is the process with SQL,But my question is, what version of W10 do you have in your client machine? Because i think that depends if you use odbc32 or odbc64.

Hi,

I've fixed my issue and its working fine now. Its not any MS office, windows or ODBC 32/64 bit issue. Its about version of ODBC Drivers (which we add in ODBC setup for a Data source) supports or matches to respective MS SQL Server version.

In my case MSSQL Server is 2014 version, I tried ODBC drivers with SQL Native Client 11, Version 13, Version 11, etc, but none of them worked except SQL Server Version 6.03*.
